Mumbai, September 18, 2008: In an effort to provide succor to the flood affected people in Bihar, Dr (Mrs) Indu Shahani, the Hon’ble Sheriff of Mumbai, in association with the IndianOil Corporation (IOC), “Dial 1298 for Ambulance’, Goonj, TNT Express supported by Times Foundation has set up collection kiosks at ten IOC petrol stations in various locations in and around Mumbai. As a part of this initiative Shiamak Davar, the dance maestro, had visited Breach Candy IOC petrol station to extend his contributions towards the cause.
Special collection centres, erected at the IndianOil petrol stations, will provide an easy access and convenience for the common man who wishes to contribute towards the cause. These centres will accept essential goods required for the people in the flood affected areas namely Dry Rations like Dal, Rice, Sugar and Haldi; medicines for stomach disorders etc, milk powder, cooking vessels, buckets, tarpaulins (minimum 12x15 feet), children’s clothes, sarees, blankets and woolens, sanitary napkins and other items of necessity. Such contributions by general public may kindly be deposited at the designated IndianOil Petrol Stations in a packed or sealed condition for easy transportation and distribution.

TNT will provide the logistic support and will be collecting the items, packaging & transporting to it to Bihar by road. The distribution of the donations is being managed by Goonj, a reputed NGO which has been one of the main organizations working for the Bihar flood relief. The list of items that are being collectedhas been compiled by Goonj who is working on-field, and addresses the specific needs of the flood-affected individuals. ‘Dial 1298 for Ambulance’ has also sent ambulances to Bihar, the same will monitor the distribution of the relief items and will provide feedback on the process in Bihar. |
